Novell good, FOSS bad

You FOSS supporters are an immature bunch. You use products every day, every hour that are protected by patents. Even the apples you eat have patents on them. To decide that invention in the lab is worthy of patenting but an invention on the computer should be free to everyone is ridiculous. Grow up. Stop smoking weed. Eat a steak. Sorry, I am recycling some of these lines from a recent PETA post. Invention is invention. How many of the FOSS supporters would be dead right now if it were not for patents on medicines? Sure, some innovation may just fall out of the sky, perhaps the soap on a rope, but most comes from hard work and dedication, with great personal sacrifice and expense. Those people and companies that pay them should be rewarded.

I’m all for free software. I’m for freeware and open source but don’t blame companies for doing what companies do. Novell is trying to survive and pay salaries. It is closed minded to treat them like the devil and ignore their great contribution to the open source movement.  Novell has donated hundreds of patents to the Open Invention Network. I think Red Hat contributed three to OIN.

I’m sure 95% of all FOSS supporters are Democrats, producing little and expecting someone else to pay the bill. If you want to consider Microsoft the evil empire, go ahead, but Novell are the good guys. They are trying to support open source and pay their employees. “It’s easy to find the leader; they are the ones in front of you with the arrows in their back.”

Ann Coulter

Ann Coulter gets ripped on by the left for being harsh. She makes hard hitting comments laced with humor, just like Al Franken, Bill Maher, Joy Behar and others. I hate comparing her to them because they are intellectual lightweights. She spits out facts and statistics like a human tickertape machine. She does make generalizations which are unproductive.

As Julie Andrews says, “a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.” I don’t think having one hard hitting comedian on the right is a bad thing.

I think Ann Coulter is great. She writes the things I would like to write if my wife would let me. Here is another great one.

The Cal Ripken President

by Ann Coulter

02/25/2009

As Obama prepared to deliver his address to Congress on Tuesday, the Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner, Fox News’ Bret Baier and Charles Krauthammer all gushed that history was being made as the first African-American president appeared before Congress.

Even Gov. Bobby Jindal, whom I suppose I should note was the first Indian-American to give the Republican response to a president’s speech, began with an encomium to the first black president. (Wasn’t Bobby great in “Slumdog Millionaire”?)

Are we going to have to hear about this for the next four years? Obama is becoming the Cal Ripken Jr. of presidents, making history every time he suits up for a game. Recently, Obama also became the first African-American president to order a ham sandwich late at night from the White House kitchen! That’s going to get old pretty quick.

But as long as the nation is obsessed with historic milestones, is no one going to remark on what a great country it is where a mentally retarded woman can become speaker of the house?

Obama spent more than twice as much time in his historic speech genuflecting to the teachers’ unions than talking about terrorism, Iraq or Afghanistan. So it was historic only in the sense that Obama is the first African-American president, but was the same old Democratic claptrap in every other respect.

After claiming that the disastrous stimulus bill would create or save 3.5 million jobs — “more than 90 percent” in the private sector — Obama then enumerated a long list of exclusively government jobs that would be “saved.”

He was suspiciously verbose about saving the jobs of public schoolteachers. Because nothing says “economic stimulus” better than saving the jobs of lethargic incompetents who kick off at 2 p.m. every day and get summers off. Actually, that’s not fair: Some teachers spend long hours after school having sex with their students.

As with the Clintons, Obama so earnestly believes in public school education that he sends his girls to … an expensive private school. He demands that taxpayers support the very public schoolteachers he won’t trust with his own children.

It is one thing to tell voters that school choice is wrong, because, you know, the public schools won’t get better unless Americans sacrifice their children to the teachers’ union’s maw. But it is quite another for Democrats to feed their own kids to the union incinerator.

Consequently, no Democrat since Jimmy Carter has been stupid enough to send his own children to a public school.

And yet the stimulus bill expressly prohibits money earmarked for “education” to be spent on financial aid at private or parochial schools. Private schools might use it for some nefarious purpose like actually teaching their students, rather than indoctrinating them in anti-American propaganda.

The stimulus bill includes about $100 billion to education. By “education,” Democrats don’t mean anything a normal person would think of as education, such as learning how to talk good. “Education” means creating lots of useless bureaucratic jobs, mostly in Washington, having nothing to do with teaching.

Apparently, nothing irritates public schoolteachers more than being asked to teach. While 80 percent of the employees of private schools are teachers, only half the employees of public schools are. The rest are “coordinating,” “facilitating” or “empowering” something or other.

The Department of Education alone provides more than 4,000 jobs that haven’t the faintest connection with teaching. And now the stimulus bill will double the Education Department’s funding. (For those of you who went to a public school, that means it will become twice as big.)

We’ve come a long way from Ronald Reagan promising to eliminate the Education Department, which itself was a Jimmy Carter sop to the teachers’ unions.

Federal meddling in education has been an abject failure, so the Democrats’ plan is to keep doing more of the same. If only there were some aphorism about people who fail to learn from history — oh, well!

It can’t be easy to reduce the educational achievement in America year after year, but the education establishment has done it! Yes they can!

Thanks to the hard work of thousands of government workers at the Department of Education and well-paid teachers’ union employees, American schoolchildren perform worse on education tests for every year they spend in a public school.

It turns out that being in U.S. public schools has the same effect on people as hanging around Paris Hilton does.

In fourth grade, the earliest grade for which international comparisons are available, American students outperform most other countries in reading, math and science. Fourth-graders score in the 92nd percentile in science, the 58th percentile in math and the 70th percentile in reading, where they beat 26 of 35 countries, including Germany, France and Italy.

But by the eighth grade, American students are only midrange in international comparisons. (On the plus side, by the eighth grade they’re noticeably fatter.)

By the 12th grade — after receiving the full benefits of an American education — Americans are near the bottom. Let X represent the number of years spent in U.S. public schools, and Y represent average test scores in math and reading — oh, never mind.

With an additional eight years of a public school education under their belts, Americans fall from the 92nd percentile in science to the 29th percentile. While American fourth-graders are bested only by South Korea and Japan in science, by 12th grade, the only countries the American students can beat are Lithuania, Cyprus and South Africa.

Which suggests that if public education were extended all the way through college, by the time a student gets to graduate school he might very well be qualified to be … speaker of the house!

Amnesty

President Obama has said that he is “very committed” to move on the immigration issue in the next several months.

“Obama admitted that pushing citizenship for illegals is difficult today. The idea ‘is probably tougher now than it was, partly because of the fact that the economy has gotten worse,’’ he said. ‘So what I’ve got to do is I’ve got to focus on the economy. I’ve got to focus on housing, and make sure that people feel a little bit more secure; at the same time, get the various immigrant rights groups together and have them start providing some advice in terms of what strategies we’re going to pursue in Congress.’”

That statement makes me sick. It reeks of being in bed with a specific demographic. I would expect such a comment towards his fellow African Americans but these are illegal aliens!

“In 2008, when Americans lost 3.5 million jobs, 144,000 immigrants were admitted every month. Why do we have an open-borders immigration policy that annually allows in millions, legal and illegal, to compete for jobs, when 10 million Americans are out of work and half a million are losing their jobs every month?” Many of these jobs could be filled by young African Americans whose unemployment rate is currently over 20%.

President Obama, along with the rest of the Democratic leadership, is licking their chops at the prospect of amnesty for millions of Mexican illegals. They are selling our country down the river in order to solidify their base. Frankly, it’s unnecessary. The Democrat’s have California, Oregon, Washington and the entire East coast completely locked up. Sure a few million more Democrat voters in Texas and Florida would be nice but it really isn’t necessary. The prospect of a conservative winning the presidency is slim to impossible. Don’t destroy our economy and national security for a mess of potage.

One slipped through

Today the media took a break from its censorship of the drug problems in Mexico. MSNBC actually ran a pictorial story on the problems being faced along the border. Some of the most dangerous cities in the world are right on the US border. Violence has been spilling over into our country with the kidnapping and murder of US citizens. Fox News has been the only network covering this.

Democrats desperately want to keep this issue under wraps so they can push for an amnesty bill. No doubt there are many politicians, especially those from boarder states, who are concerned but are being encouraged by leaders to stand down long enough for a bill to be signed.

NBC, which stands for “National Broadcasting Company”, (sounds like the name of a news source in the former Soviet Union) somehow, let this story slip through the cracks. Don’t get me wrong, they missed a lot of the story. They didn’t talk about the violence spilling into the US or the absurd actions being taken by politicians but they did say something.

We should be grateful for this one little story by MSNBC. Hopefully, other news sources will jump on the bandwagon.

When does the campaign end?

Obama has been in office nearly a month and I don’t think a day has gone by without him making a speech. I’m starting to wonder if he only knows how to campaign. He’s good at it for sure but even my liberal brothers are hoping he will focus on governing.

Wait! I don’t agree with Obama on anything, I don’t want him governing. President O, don’t read this…keep campaigning.

Dishonest Senator Daschle

The Democrats support of Senator Daschle for Secretary of Health and Human Services is really sad. Everyone knows he was being dishonest. You can’t argue that it was a simple mistake.

Let me ask a question. If you discovered that you owed $134,000 in unpaid taxes, wouldn’t you be nervous that the IRS would discover it before you got it paid? I sure would be. That’s not a small sum of money. I would be extremely anxious to get it paid. Mr. Daschle on the other hand didn’t treat it with any sense of urgency. He told his accountant to investigate it in June 2008. The work should take maybe a week to accomplish but he didn’t pay until January 2, 2009. He didn’t pay it until he absolutely had to. If you take the evidence on hand, which comes straight from Senator Daschle, and determine that it was a mistake, you are either unbelievably gullible or so politically biased that you can’t be objective.

Another indicator of his extreme dishonesty is that this isn’t money needed to feed his children. Guys like Daschle who have so many years of experience in high levels of government will never struggle for income. That is evident from his huge windfall ($5M) since losing his Senate seat in 2004. Why was he so slow to pay? Because he’s a crook!

Finally today the pressure became so great that the President needed to withdraw his nomination. Of course they don’t actually withdraw his name. In order to not disgrace the crook, they talk about how great and honorable he is and let him bow out himself.

Listen to these sickening quotes from his fellow Democratic Senators:

“It’s just the kind of class move you’d expect from a person like Tom Daschle.” Senator Dick Durbin

“Daschle’s own admission that he had failed to pay the taxes was reason enough to forgive his sin.” Senator Chuck Schumer

“I’m too emotionally upset to answer.” Senator Tom Harkin

Now the “CROOK” gets to become the martyr.

Coverage of Iraq

I am absolutely dumbfounded by the rapid change in coverage of the Iraq war. Even ABC news is running stories on the daily transfer of responsibilities from the US military to Iraq. They interviewed a lovely young woman in a Bagdad as she watched her children play in a park. She was dressed like a Westerner. You leave the story feeling good about the war.

Why didn’t the media show ANY of this before January 21st? I bet I can guess.
